Albion, Isle of Wight

The Albion hotel, which can claim to have some of the best sea views on the island, has been welcoming guests to Freshwater Bay since Victorian times. It’s about to reopen under new ownership after a multi-million pound refurbishment. The new-look Albion will have 40 rooms, 36 of which face the sea; these will include two suites, seven dog-friendly rooms and two accessible rooms. Some have a freestanding bathtub and a balcony or terrace. A small, family-run hotel group has renovated the 26-bedroom Knipoch House on the edge of Loch Feochan, near Oban on Scotland’s west coast. The house dates from the 1600s and still retains its original fireplaces and paneling; These are supplemented by super king beds and a spa tub. This casual restaurant with rooms near Kingsbridge has recently reopened after major construction work and has nine rooms; all overlooking the beach and Bolt Tail headland. The art deco Park Hotel, overlooking Long Sands Beach for more than 80 years, has reopened as Tynemouth Castle Inn following a £10 million refurbishment. The inn has 72 rooms, most with sea views and balconies or terraces, including some family rooms and some dog-friendly rooms. The bar serves food all day, from brunch (ham and pea pudding stottie, smoked mackerel bread) to dinner (pheasant kiev, venison patties) and Sunday lunch. The former grain warehouse is being transformed into a two-storey restaurant with panoramic windows overlooking the coast.
