Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said it was “inappropriate to use the term inappropriate” when describing relationships between players in the same squad, adding that her comments this week were “unnecessarily exaggerated”.
On Thursday, Hayes said player-to-player relationships in the same dressing room could cause difficulties for managers. Hayes made the comments while responding to questions surrounding the issue of manager-player relations, which came to the fore this week after Leicester manager Willie Kirk was suspended by the club over allegations of an affair with a Leicester player.
During his response, Hayes said: “Player-coach relationships are inappropriate, player-to-player relationships are inappropriate.”
There are players in the Chelsea squad who are in relationships with each other, including Jess Carter. The England and Chelsea defender is in a relationship with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger.
