Fashion and celebrity gossip fans alike have a big reason to be excited this Monday when the annual red carpet rolls out. Met the Gala.

The star-studded event is a veritable playground for the rich and famous when it comes to fashion, but few have as much fun or get people talking as much. Rihanna.

Over the past decade, the chart-topping singer and beauty entrepreneur has established herself as the true queen of the Met Ball thanks to her standout fashion choices, and all signs point to another RiRi moment on this year’s red carpet.

While we wait for all the red carpet photos from the 2024 Met Ball (including Rihanna herself!), here’s the definitive ranking of the looks the musician has worn to the Met Gala over the years.

10. 2007 – Poiret: King of Fashion

Fresh off the success of her then-chart-topping single Umbrella, Rihanna attended her first Met Gala in 2007 (still sporting her Good Girl Gone Bad hairstyle).

Honestly, this outfit isn’t really one for the history books, especially compared to how modern Rihanna’s fashion choices would be in the years to follow.

Still, even if we’re not crazy about the white dress, we have to give a shout out to the gloves, which add a certain something to the outfit.

This look in tight black snakeskin is definitely more reminiscent of the “fashion icon Rihanna” who will appear in the not too distant future after this photo was taken.

Still, even though this outfit is too basic to make it higher than eighth place in our definitive rankings, we still have to give it props for the great material (and, of course, the gorgeous hairstyle).

7. 2014 – Charles James: Beyond Fashion

Another beautiful outfit from Rihanna. What we loved most about his 2014 collection was how young, fresh and entertainment especially in an event where we secretly suspect that the laughs are actually few and far between.

This outfit might not be to everyone’s taste, but if anyone can wear this killer Balenciaga coat with a matching bejeweled beret, it’s Rihanna, and we’re big fans of the makeup and jewelry.

In 2021, Rih walked the red carpet with A$AP Rocky, marking their first public appearance as a couple, and within a few months, the We Found Love singer confirmed she was expecting their first child.

Still, what kind of outfit was this? There was a lot to love between the huge floral coat and white gloves that took on a completely different look when he pulled down the hood, but we all know the real star of the show…

In 2009, Rihanna was still in the early days of experimenting with a more avant-garde and daring style than we were used to seeing from her at the time.

Bringing masculine and feminine together with her suit trousers, bow tie and high heels, Rihanna created one of the notable looks of the night that year, and would continue to present similar fashion moments while promoting her fourth album, Rated R. it was released later that year.

It’s also worth noting that this was the then-21-year-old actress’ first red carpet appearance since she was physically assaulted by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown just a few months earlier, making this an already powerful (and underrated, in our opinion) appearance . more effective.

Rihanna was one of the co-chairs of the Met Gala in 2018, so the stakes were especially high when it came to the red carpet.

Luckily, it was more than successful and gave us the most remarkable moment of the entire night.

The funny thing about this outfit is that while some critics on social media suggested it was blasphemous or in bad taste, the Vatican actually approved the theme that year, and Rihanna also borrowed part of her outfit from an actual Catholic Cardinal.

2. 2015 – China: Through the Looking Glass

Whether you think it resembles a pizza, an omelet, or a tribute to Big Bird, the dress that created thousands of memes, Rihanna’s 2015 look was definitely one that got everyone talking.

Rihanna later revealed that Shex stumbled upon the dress while researching Chinese couture online, telling Vanity Fair: “I’m so in love with this dress, but the train is crazy!”

“I really can’t get in without help, but it’s worth it. I love this dress so much! This is Chinese fashion and was made by Guo Pei. It was handmade by a Chinese woman and took two years to make. I found it online.”

2015 was a big year for Rihanna at the Met Gala; Not only did she win the red carpet, but she also performed during the event (with a much more stage-friendly ensemble).

There’s always a fling or two on the Met Gala red carpet; celebrities choose to wear something beautiful or flashy rather than sticking to the theme of the event; but 2016 was the next phase.

Since the night was inspired by Comme Des Garçons, the fashion house known for its detailed and edgy silhouettes, many of the stars in attendance opted for something a little simpler than the invitation demanded.
