Even before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from royal duties, the Duchess of Sussex was representing clothing brands in her native California. Since the couple moved to the upscale neighborhood of Montecito, Markle has continued her West Coast style streak, opting for pieces by Staud, Heidi Merrick, and Frame, among others.

Heidi Merrick
Markle has worn Heidi Merrick many times, including to the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in April, where she wore a white halter dress with a keyhole cutout. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, just a stone’s throw from the duke and duchess’ Montecito mansion, Merrick launched his eponymous brand in 2006. Combining sustainable materials and quality fabrics, Merrick’s designs were also used by Cindy Crawford and Selena Gomez. .
Rothy’s
While visiting Melbourne, Australia, in 2018, Markle chose a pair of black Rothy’s The Point flats for a walk on the beach. The shoe company, headquartered in San Francisco, produces environmentally friendly shoes woven from recycled water bottles. Stars such as Emily Ratajkowski, Paris Hilton and Irina Shayk are also fans of the affordable brand.
Frame
Markle took her favorite pair of Frame skinny jeans with her when she headed to Germany for the 2023 Invictus Games. Swedish entrepreneurs Erik Torstensson and Jens Grede founded their clothing brand in Los Angeles in 2012. They have since hired celebrity spokespeople like Gisele Bündchen, Karlie Kloss and Amelia Gray.

Markle and Prince Harry surprised a group of young tech entrepreneurs who called last summer to congratulate the recipients of the Responsible Technology Youth Power Fund, which aims to promote ethics in technology. In a short video, Markle wore a matching camel cashmere set by Malibu-based brand Bleusalt, which specializes in sustainable luxury essentials made in the United States.
Birdies
During the duke and duchess’s trip to New Zealand, Markle opted for a pair of black Birdies flats while exploring the Redwood groves in Rotorua. Bianca Gates and Marisa Sharkey founded their shoe brand in San Francisco in 2015. Featuring plush insoles, Birdies are known for their comfortable yet trendy silhouettes.
Cuyana
Markle has carried Cuyana bags for years, including on her royal tour of Australia in 2018. In Sydney, she wore a mini, blush-toned saddle bag from the San Francisco-based brand. Founded in 2013, Cuyana produces sustainable leather products loved by celebrities like Emily Blunt, Zoe Saldana and Jessica Alba.

At the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany, Markle wore a pair of linen Staud shorts with a cuffed hem. In 2015, Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto launched their clothing brand in Los Angeles. Staud’s products include swimwear, accessories, formal and casual clothing. Her stylish outfits have been worn by the likes of Bella Hadid and Sophie Turner.

While visiting Australia’s Fraser Island in 2018, Markle chose a striped linen Reformation dress for a trip with Prince Harry. Founded in 2009, the eco-friendly Los Angeles-based company is known for its feminine silhouettes and cozy knits that have built a following among stars such as Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner and Emma Watson.
