I was a green girl for a month

By | January 24, 2024

Of course I can’t be the only one with a FYP being followed by the so-called ‘green girls’ right now, right? It seems like every scroll during my nightly TikTok scrolling session is clearly a video of someone self-indulgent. ‘clean girl’ era, dressed head to toe in gym clothes, seemingly having her life together… and drinking her greens. And of all the green companies emerging from this new trend, Bloom is what I see coming up the most.

‘on its terms’intestinal health‘ and ‘bloat’ are thrown around so often these days, it’s easy to get caught up in something that promises a quick fix and as someone who’s interested in swelling I was attracted by the purported benefits that Bloom offers throughout the various phases of their cycle.

With Bloom products becoming available in the UK for the first time, my curiosity for these ad-driven TikToks won out: I finally bit the bullet and decided to test Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods for a month to see if they were for real. lived up to the hype…

What’s in Bloom Greens and Superfoods?

Bloom has a variety of products that claim to help with many issues, but I preferred the Greens and Superfood Powder, which is made with over 30 ingredients. fruits and vegetablesEspecially probiotics and antioxidants that claim to help deal with bloating, digestion and low energy.

The Greens and Superfoods mix is also available in a variety of flavors, from mango to coconut, so you can see what works best for you. your taste profile.

What does Bloom Greens & Superfoods taste like?

As mentioned, there are multiple flavors offered, so there is no one-size-fits-all answer. However, in my experience, some flavors were definitely easier to digest than others; For me, Strawberry-Kiwi was *chef’s kiss* and tasted good mixed with water and a few ice cubes (my usual concoction), but unfortunately I couldn’t make it. You can’t get behind Berry or Mango that easily.

Greens & Superfoods Powder was a great solution to add to smoothies and shakes; This not only increased the flavor, but also helped pack in more fruit and fiber from the greens currently offered.

How to make Bloom Greens? & Superfoods to drink?

Come on, it wouldn’t be a greens smoothie without an electric whisk! If you just want to feel like a real influencer for a moment, it’s definitely worth investing in the £14 handheld electric mixer, as it does all the prep work for you.

Add a scoop of greens to water, smoothies, or shakes and happily whisk away all day long. Pro tip though, if you’re drinking slowly, definitely keep a whisk nearby. Because of the powdery texture of the greens, they tend to rest at the bottom of your glass, so with a little re-whipping, you’re good to go.

What are the benefits of Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods mix?

Bloom claims the main health benefits of the greens blend offering are gut health support and increased energy. Digestive enzymes and dairy-free probiotics included in the ingredient list are what promise to relieve annoying bloating. fruits and vegetables, antioxidants and adaptogens simultaneously boost energy throughout the day. It’s a little scientific for me, but I’ll faithfully risk my gut health in the name of a bloating cure.

It’s always hard to tell if a particular food or drink reduces my bloating, especially over the course of a month when my bloating subsides. luteal phase It can really affect how uncomfortable and lethargic I feel. Some days I’ll feel great and ready to tackle the marathon training I need to do, but other days my emotional support hot water bottle is permanently attached to me. I don’t mean to be rude, but… it didn’t take me long to learn that a big part of the bloating benefits come from how regular greens make your bowel movements (which isn’t an area where I personally need help, but if you’re feeling a bit stuffy… this could be your savior).

Stomach upset aside, I’d happily recommend Bloom’s greens for energy: I tried the powder both before and after. running and it always left me feeling revitalized, hydrated, and with a little pep in my step.

The opinion of a nutritionist Bloom’s Greens and Superfoods

Since I wanted an expert opinion (from a professional unaffiliated with Bloom), I asked Kate Hilton RD BSc, clinical dietitian at Feel Gut, to take a look at the ingredient list and share her verdict. she notes that it “has a good fiber blend of chicory root, flaxseed and apple powder”; however, if you have FODMAP-sensitive IBS, Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods may cause an exacerbation of symptoms due to endive and apples.”

Hilton also notes that the powder offers “an overall high dose of certain vitamins and minerals, as well as polyphenols, flavonoids, and fiber.” But the actual amount you’ll get per serving probably won’t be that much.” He adds that it’s also important to consider the presence of other ‘anti-nutrients’ such as spurious B12 found in Spirulina, which is essentially a compound that appears to increase blood levels of B12 (for example, if you are having a blood test) but in reality this form of B12 cannot be used or absorbed in the same way as B12 from other sources.

As for gut health, Hilton says Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods blend has three known types of “good” bacteria, but notes that “it’s unknown how many of these bacteria will reach the gut alive, which could affect the effectiveness of the treatment.” product.” He also praised Bloom’s ingredient list for including real fruits and vegetables, not just vitamins and minerals.

Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods also contains adaptogens (herbs that can produce calming effects to reduce stress), and Hilton shares that some “studies have shown that some adaptogens may be neuroprotective, helping fight fatigue and reducing depressive and anxiety-related symptoms.” How they do this is generally very mild, and the dosages of adaptogens are strongly debated in the medical and herbal medicine communities.”

Final thoughts: My review of Bloom’s Greens & Superfoods

While Bloom Greens & Superfoods powder is not a product I would recommend, I can see the benefits of adding greens powder to your regular routine.

Having a glass filled with over 30 ingredients designed to be good for you not only made me feel more physically energized, but also made me feel better. mentally. It got me into my morning and diet routine and made me think about how much fruit and veg I was actually eating (spoiler: not enough). It also made me think more deeply about how I should nourish myself in preparation for the marathon.

I can also applaud Bloom for how versatile he is; Add the greens to any drink at any time of day or try any flavor. With a constantly eclectic mix of WFH days and office days throughout my week, it’s sometimes difficult to establish a routine, so relying on small habits like drinking my greens every day has helped me feel grounded. This is actually a small miracle.

Honestly, it’s pretty nice to see myself as a ‘green girl’ and I can now go about my day feeling like I can get my life together a little better. After all, I’m wearing it gym equipment and I smoke my vegetables.
