Ten Hag added: “We’re very happy for him and of course a bit proud. I can say that I’m very proud. It’s a great thing for the Manchester United academy to produce such a young player for the national team. It’s a huge compliment for the whole club.”

“I definitely think it comes first for him because he did it. “But it’s also very good news for Manchester United and for everyone who worked with him during his time in the academy.”

Asked if he should manage the excitement at Mainoo, Ten Hag said: “Yes, but we have discussed it before and he is handling it very well so far. If he crosses the line, yes, of course I as a manager and we as coaches will intervene .

“But so far it’s not necessary because he loves football, he wants to win, he wants to do his best every day because he wants to improve. As I said, he just wants to have fun on the field. For him, it’s fun to play dominantly, dictate the game and win the game.”

Erik ten Hag is confident Kobbie Mainoo can handle the excitement following his impressive England debut.

Just four months after making his Premier League debut, the 18-year-old produced a man-of-the-match performance in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Belgium at Wembley.

Mainoo wasn’t even included in England’s starting squad, but he made a promising debut off the bench against Brazil and has the potential to earn a place at Euro 2024 with his performance against Belgium.

This performance took the midfielder to new heights, but Ten Hag is confident that the success will not surprise him.

“I thought it was very good but we weren’t surprised,” the United boss said. “We saw what he can do, how he can adapt to high levels very quickly. It looks very natural.”

Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw continue to be injured. Harry Maguire struggled during England’s defeat against Brazil, while Lisandro Martinez is nearing a return after being sidelined for two months with knee problems.

Altay Bayındır, Casemiro and Jonny Evans could not play in the last match due to their injuries, and we do not yet know whether the trio will be able to recover during the halftime.

Brentford will also be without Sergio Reguilon, as he received a red card in the defeat against Burnley and was sidelined for one match. Rico Henry, Ben Mee and Josh Dasilva will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Is the Brentford-Manchester United match on TV?

Manchester United travel to Brentford on Saturday for the Premier League resumption on the Easter weekend after the international break.

The Bees have lost seven of their last nine league matches against Manchester United, but they won 4-0 in the same match last season. However, United will look to start from the front after beating Liverpool in the FA Cup in their last game before the break.

United have paused their efforts this season to secure a place in next season’s Champions League and enter the weekend in sixth place, nine points behind Aston Villa, who are currently fourth.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side have not been as productive away from home as they would have liked, especially in London, winning just one of their last eight away league games against teams from the capital, while also losing four of their last five.

Brentford and Manchester United are fighting for points in the Premier League match on Saturday (20:00, Sky Sports Main Event) for very different reasons.

The Premier League returns after a two-week break following the international break and both teams are hoping to make a strong start to the season.

Brentford’s bid for survival was boosted by a points deduction from Nottingham Forest, putting them five points clear of Tricky Trees, who have dropped to 18th.

However, Thomas Frank’s men are winless in their last six games and they may need at least one more win to be comfortable about their Premier League status next season.
