Chelsea – Everton – LIVE!

Chelsea know they must bounce back from a frustrating result when they host Everton at Stamford Bridge tonight. The Blues drew with Sheffield United last time out and quickly halted the momentum they had gained with a dramatic win against Manchester United, and they now face another side firmly in the relegation battle.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are still chasing European football despite an extremely inconsistent season. Victory here would move Chelsea within three points of Newcastle and sixth, with still a game in hand. The absence of Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi in tonight’s match added new ones to the already long list of absences.

Everton alleviated their fear of relegation to some extent with four points from their last two matches. The Toffees are two points clear of the bottom three but have two games left against Nottingham Forest and Luton and will be desperate to get something from west London tonight. A glorious night in West London…

A busy summer expected at Stamford Bridge

18:40 , Matt Verri

Chelsea’s homegrown stars will be in no rush to find a new club if the Blues need to sell them to raise quick cash this summer.

Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja could be sold to ensure Chelsea avoid the threat of financial breach.

Chelsea reportedly need to raise £100 million from player sales by June 30 for the sales to be included in their 2023-24 financial accounts.

Academy players represent ‘pure profit’ on the balance sheet and many young players in the squad fear they will be at the forefront of players the club is considering selling. But Gallagher, Chalobah, Maatsen and Broja are understood to insist they will wait for the right opportunity.

Gallagher is believed to be worth between £45 million and £50 million. Tottenham tried to sign him last summer and he was keen to move to a top-flight Premier League club.

The midfielder will enter the final year of his contract this summer and talks over a new deal have made little progress. He hopes to be selected for the England squad for Euro 2024 and will be reluctant to talk about his future during the tournament.

Pochettino: Sterling can play at home

18:27 , Matt Verri

Mauricio Pochettino insists he is not afraid of playing Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling at Stamford Bridge despite being left on the bench for being booed against Leicester.

The 29-year-old has not started since his poor display before the international half, when he was subjected to boos and jeers from a large section of the home fans.

Sterling made substitute appearances against Burnley and Manchester United before being used at Sheffield United last Sunday.

“No, because we evaluate the performance of all the players and I think we have to be fair or try to be fair and we gave Noni Madueke the opportunity to play,” Pochettino told reporters.

“And put [Cole] Palmer is in another position to find a good balance. You know we should take it [someone] On the left, I think it’s because we evaluate the player’s form and then decide. Just for this.

“Not because of the situation, [that isn’t] It will make me change my mind. And I think the team did not suffer because of this. Because I analyze the player’s form. I have to make decisions later.”

Chelsea extend deals

18:19 , Matt Verri

Chelsea considered options to extend the long contracts of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk until their 30s.

FA documents revealed Fernandez has eight years left on his £180,000-a-week deal, which runs until 2032, while Mudryk has seven years left on his £97,000-a-week deal until 2031.

Fernandez will be 31 years old when his contract expires and Mudryk will be 30 years old.

Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023 in a £106.8 million deal; During the same period, Mudryk also joined from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88.5 million.

It is unclear why Chelsea are exercising their options when there is so much time to extend their contracts.

Everton appeal against second points deduction

18:06 , Matt Verri

Everton have formally appealed against the two-point penalty imposed on the club for breaching Premier League financial rules earlier this month.

The Toffees indicated their intention to appeal last Monday, the day the sanction was announced, and the club confirmed it had done so.

The club admitted breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) with allowable losses of £16.6 million during the evaluation period ending with the 2022-23 season.

The independent commission that imposed sanctions stated in the written justification of its decision that the Premier League initially requested a 5-point penalty.

This amount was reduced by two by the commission after taking into account mitigating factors, particularly the fact that the club had been penalized twice in the same overlapping period. Everton’s 10-point penalty for an earlier PSR breach was reduced to six on appeal in February.

Standard Sports prediction

It’s hard to be sure about predicting the Chelsea result at the moment but they should have plenty of firepower for the Everton team.

The Blues have been hugely impressive on home soil and can pick up another win here.

Chelsea win 2-1.

Chelsea team news

17:43 , Matt Verri

Chelsea will be without Axel Disasi and Enzo Fernandez this evening.

While the duo increases Mauricio Pochettino’s possible absence list to 11, the fact that Raheem Sterling and Robert Sanchez are also ill poses great doubts.

Disasi, who never missed a match through injury before joining Chelsea, has not trained since the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United and neither has Fernandez.

Ben Chilwell is in “partial team training” and could be eligible for a place on the bench. Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku and Lesley Ugochukwu continue to be injured.

Malo Gusto will return after being rested on Sunday, joining the back four with Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella the only senior defenders available.

Predicted Chelsea XI: Petrovic; Gusto, Chalobah, Silva, Cucurella; Caicedo, Gallagher; Palmer, Mudryk, Madueke; jackson
