Met Office issued rain warning for the same day as temperatures hit 21C

While large parts of the country are affected by heavy rains, temperatures will rise to 21 degrees in some parts of England on Wednesday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain covering the West Midlands, South West, North West and Wales from 6pm on Tuesday until midday on Wednesday.

There is a separate yellow rain warning in place for much of Northern Ireland between midnight and midday on Wednesday.

A yellow warning means there is a small chance of an outage to power supplies and homes and businesses are unlikely to be flooded.

Remarkably, the weather warnings were issued despite the Met Office saying the south and south-east of England could see temperatures of up to 21°C on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to mild Atlantic air blowing northwards towards England.

However, it will be the wet weather that will prevail this weekend, with widespread rainfall expected from Friday to Sunday.

Met Office spokesman Oliver Claydon told Yahoo News UK on Tuesday: “We could see higher temperatures for a while on Wednesday.

“There’s a chance of 20C – possibly 21C – in areas around London in the south-east of England. This is due to brighter weather conditions in the south-east corner and more clouds around in the rest of the UK.”

But he said: “It will still be wet in many other parts of the UK on Wednesday, with heavy rain in particular in western parts. So high temperatures will actually be confined to the south-east of England.”

Regarding the rest of the week, Claydon said: “After a drier day for most on Thursday, conditions will deteriorate again with wind and rain approaching from the North West and spreading across the UK and eastwards by Friday. “More rainy and windy weather is expected on Sunday until Saturday morning.”
