Which Dog Breeds Is Ollie Dog Food Best Suitable For?
Ollie is suitable for puppies and adult dogs that are relatively healthy and do not have serious chronic health problems. Ingredient lists are also very simple, so you can easily choose recipes that avoid certain meats that trigger allergic reactions.
Some recipes are better suited for different types of dogs. For example, the Carrot Chicken Dinner recipe is a good recipe for dogs with sensitive stomachs, and the Cranberry Lamb Dinner is great for dogs prone to allergies.

If I must be picky, our only hesitation is the use of fish oil mixture in chicken, beef and lamb recipes. Some dogs are allergic to fish, so they may have a reaction if they eat these recipes. However, fish allergies are generally less common than other meat allergies.
Single Source of Protein
Ollie’s recipes include only a single source of meat, other than fish oil. For example, the beef recipe includes only beef and veal organs, while the chicken recipe includes chicken meat and whole dried eggs.
For the most part, all of Ollie’s recipe lists are short and simple, so they’re easy for dog owners with food allergies and sensitivities to navigate.

All of Ollie’s recipes were developed by a team of veterinarians. The company also has its own Canine Council, comprised of animal scientists, behaviorists and nutritionists. The Dog Council exists to develop and innovate recipes and other products that benefit a dog’s health.
In addition to using fresh ingredients, Ollie’s recipes are minimally processed to significantly reduce nutrient loss. The recipes also do not include any fillers and do not contain any wheat or soy. All batches are also tested for quality control and pass through a metal detector to screen for any impurities.
Convenient Experience
Ollie aims to provide a convenient experience to its customers. After completing the initial survey you will be given a list of recommended recipes. Ollie will then send you a package with enough food to last you until your next delivery date.
The first package includes a handy food scoop and storage container. Both products are dishwasher safe, so they are very easy to keep clean. The package also comes with feeding instructions; so you can make sure you’re feeding your dog the right daily portions.
Customers can also easily make changes to their orders by logging into their online accounts. Some specific changes you can make include skipping delivery, changing recipes, and adding snacks to the box.

So most puppies and dogs can eat their own recipes without adding supplements. However, this dog food may not be the best option for dogs that need more specialized diets. For example, there is no recipe specifically developed for losing weight.
Although Ollie takes into account high-energy dogs, it does not specify whether the dog food supports athletic and actively working dogs, such as search and rescue dogs. If recipes can be fed to such dogs, costs can quickly add up if the volume of food you need to feed the dog is significantly greater.

Reviews of the Ollie Dog Food We Tried
Let’s take a closer look at three of Ollie’s best dog food recipes that our pups had the chance to test.
1. Carrot Chicken Dish
This recipe is our favorite because it takes the standard chicken recipe and amps it up with fresh and nutritious ingredients. Chicken is listed as the first ingredient and is supported by carrots, spinach and blueberries. You’ll also find fish oil and cod liver oil mixed in, which are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
This recipe has the lowest calories among the Ollie dog food recipes. So, if you’re worried about your dog’s weight, your best bet is to give your dog a chicken recipe.
As we mentioned before, this recipe contains fish oil and cod liver oil. So if your dog is allergic to fish, he will not be able to enjoy this dish. Other than that, this is a great recipe for a wide variety of dogs.

2. Beef Dish with Sweet Potatoes
Sweet Potato Beef Dish is another solid recipe developed by Ollie. It has been labeled as one of the most nutrient-rich dishes and we believe it. In addition to beef as the first ingredient, the recipe also includes beef liver and beef kidney. Beef liver is extremely nutrient-dense and an excellent source of iron, zinc, phosphorus, copper and selenium.
Again, if I have to be really picky, our only criticism is that this recipe has a mushy consistency, which may be due to the starch in the sweet potatoes. So, if you have a particularly picky pup who doesn’t like pâté textures, he probably won’t like this recipe.

3. Lamb Dish with Cranberries
This recipe is a great choice for dogs with food allergies and sensitivities. It does not contain any common food allergens, but does contain easily digestible pumpkin. Similar to the beef recipe, this lamb recipe is also nutrient-dense and includes lamb liver.
Cranberries are also very nutritious and a good source of antioxidants, calcium and potassium. However, dogs may not like the taste of this recipe as it is quite tart.
Note that this dish contains the highest calories. Therefore, it is important to make sure you feed your dog the correct proportions to prevent weight gain.

Our Ollie Dog Food Experience
I ordered a can of Ollie dog food and was overall pleased with the experience. First of all, the packaging was great. It included a pack of dry ice to keep food frozen, and the starter box came with a dishwasher-safe food scoop and silicone cup.
I also received a nice feeding guide that gave me step by step instructions on switching to the new dog food and showed me the portion sizes to give our dog. This inclusion was especially helpful because my dog has a sensitive stomach and it takes a while to get used to new foods and treats.
The recipes I received were chicken, beef and lamb dishes. All of the food came in vacuum-sealed packages, which was very convenient as our dog only had to eat one packet of food each day.
However, since I was used to feeding our dog dry food, it took me a while to get used to thawing the food. So there were times when I forgot to pull food from the freezer to the refrigerator. Luckily, if I was short on time, I could reheat the meal in the microwave for a few seconds.
I noticed that because the recipes were nutrient dense, the serving size was significantly smaller than the serving size of our dog’s previous dog food. This left our dog feeling hungry and he was begging for more food as he tried to get used to the new food.
I chose to follow the food transition guide religiously because my dog has a sensitive stomach and did not experience any stomach upset when he learned to eat the new food. Apparently the recipes were delicious because he eagerly devoured them all. This is a huge compliment because he tends to be a very picky dog and has been known to spit out popular dog treats.
While Ollie’s delivery service is mostly very convenient and hassle-free, one minor issue I noticed was the extra step you have to take to cancel your subscription. While other changes, such as changing recipes and updating delivery dates, are easily completed through your online account, you’ll need to send a separate email to Ollie’s customer service to cancel the subscription completely.
Solution
Overall, Ollie dog food is an excellent choice if you’re interested in fresh dog food subscriptions. Pre-thawing food takes some getting used to, but all the recipes are packed with nutrients and look delicious for dogs, too.
My dog and I enjoyed our experience with Ollie. The only reason I can’t give it a 5 star review is due to some minor details and inconveniences. However, once a dog starts eating completely on schedule, feeding times become a much more relaxed and worry-free experience.
