They thought they were above the law. But in the end their brutal crimes were revealed

Courts all over the country hear their share of dangerous drivers in the dock. From speeders to those who got behind the wheel after drinking an awful lot of alcohol.

They often result in dangerous police pursuits, horrific accidents and sadly tragic deaths.

While those in the driver’s seat often accept blame, there are also those who do their best to avoid responsibility.

These are just some of the careless drivers who thought they were above the law but were caught and taken to the courts in our area.

Callum Carew

This is the ‘show’ drunk driver who crashed into an innocent motorcyclist, causing him to fall off his bike and sustain fatal injuries.

Callum Carew, 34, was driving his white BMW M2 along the A534 at Crewe at around 11.15pm on March 31, reaching speeds of around 140mph in a 60mph zone.

Moments later, it crashed into the back of a blue Direct Bikes Scooter driven by 29-year-old Razvan Brumar. He was thrown from the motorcycle due to the impact of the collision and was seriously injured.

Emergency services teams arrived at the scene and treated Razvan by paramedics before taking him to the hospital. He later died as a result of his injuries.

When Carew was later questioned by police, he insensitively tried to blame his victim by claiming the bike had no headlights. He also told officers he drank just a pint before failing a breath test and being arrested.

Carew, of Rochester Crescent in Crewe, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving while over the drink drive limit. He was sentenced to nine years and four months behind bars at Chester Crown Court on Monday, May 13.

Mohammed Atif mowed down an elderly woman crossing the road before telling police he was “dazzled by the sunlight”.
