Ange Postecoglou expects a ‘tough match’

13:35 , Alex Young

“Luton has been extremely competitive all year. They made it really difficult for the opponent in every match. I think Rob has done a great job this year, considering all the challenges they’ve been through and are going through right now with injuries.

“Every game I watch them, they are always competitive, they always make it difficult for the opponents and tomorrow it will be no different for us and we have to be ready for that.

“We are back home, of course the last game was disappointing but we have to make sure we get back to our football and do our best because that is what is needed.”

Rob Edwards tells Spurs to expect a different Luton

Tottenham secured a narrow 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road in October despite Yves Bissouma receiving a red card.

Micky van de Ven scored the second-half winner, but only after the visitors had chalked up Luton’s goal in the first 20 minutes.

“They were fantastic and we did a few things wrong in the first game,” said Hatters boss Edwards.

“The plan was right for where we were at the time and where we were going. But the first 18 minutes or so was ‘wow!’ Their speed and the quality of their play were incredible.

“I remember I was probably the most active person I’ve ever been on the touchline because it was obvious what we weren’t doing right. But once we adjusted, yes they dominated the ball but we were in the game.

“There was a lot to like about the performance at that stage of the season, they were competing against Tottenham at the time, they were in really good form.

“But now we’re doing our work differently and this time we’ll see how we deal with them – it’ll create a well there, a big stadium, a really good atmosphere.” to see how far we’ve come. “Hopefully we carry a little more threat this time.”

While Spurs have not always been entirely convincing at home, questions will be asked as to whether they can beat a team that has won just once in ten games.

Mads Andersen, Alfie Doughty and Albert Sambi Lokonga are among those playing for the Hatters, who are missing nearly 10 players.

Chiedozie Ogbene will definitely miss out after being injured on international duty for the Republic of Ireland.

Tottenham team news

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou will be able to welcome back defender Micky van de Ven today, while Richarlison will be dealing with a knee injury.

Van de Ven missed the 3-0 defeat at Fulham ahead of the international break with a hamstring strain but has trained this week and is likely to replace Radu Dragusin in the back four.

Richarlison is also in contention to start despite not featuring in Brazil after the break.

Postecoglou said the striker is ready to play but Richarlison may have to feature on the bench again; Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson are also vying for a place in the front three to join captain Heung-min Son.

The Australian faces a decision in midfield, where Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Sarr are fighting for two places.

Bissouma was sent off in Spurs’ 1-0 win against Luton in October but was generally preferred by Postecoglou as Spurs’ deepest midfielder.
